چکیده
We offer a new explanation for why taxes have become less redistributive in many countries while the concentration of incomes has increased. Our argument is based on prevalence incentive contracts modern economies, conjunction with increased product market integration. Globalization widens spread project returns and makes contract choices more responsive to tax changes. This can result lower optimal income rate simultaneously increasing share top earners. These results are confirmed calibrated version our model U.S. data.

Globalization, Inequality, and Redistribution: Theory and Evidence
This paper constructs a simple theoretical model to study the implications of globalization for inequality and redistribution. It shows that when globalization increases inequality, a policymaker interested in maximizing the sum of welfares of all agents increases redistribution. Empirically, the paper examines the e¤ects of globalization on inequality and redistribution in a panel data set of ...

A multi-divisional firm can engage in ”winner-picking” to redistribute scarce funds efficiently across divisions. But there is a conflict between rewarding winners (investing) and producing resources with which to reward winners (incentives). In this paper we explain the apparent ”diversification discount” of conglomerates without assuming inefficient-cross subsidisation through internal capital markets. Instead we assume that an internal capital market efficiently redistributes scare resources across a conglomerate’s divisions between successive production periods. The need for redistribution arises from the fact that resources may...
متن کاملRedistribution and work incentives in an independent Scotland: opportunities and constraints

However, because different groups respond differently to particular incentives inherent in ...
